#254: Heather Diaz: librarian at Forbes

Heather Diaz tells us all about what it’s like to be an information services (aka reference) librarian at Forbes, the main library in downtown Northampton.    Who comes? How did she become a librarian?  Does the library loan drums and induction cookplates?  Can she help you host a virtual meeting about reparations?  Are they open til 8pm?  Are they building a bandstand in the yard?  and more!

Tech problems in the studio for this show.  Electrical issues.  it went over the air sporadically, there was no internet connection, and it didn’t record.  so this recording is just a  hashing together of my clips.  only 28 min.

#251: Carmageddon and bike songs

I rode the length of Rte 9 in Hadley today on an errand, which inspired this show.   That and I’ve been reading Andy Singer’s book  CARtoons.     Mostly this show is bike songs from the Americas and Europe, and quotes from Andy’s book, including other thinkers such as Ivan Illich.

But first my neighbor Derek Goodwin invites us to Kirtan this evening, while playing harmonium.

#245: Lima, Sarosh Haider, Greyhound Bus Survival Stories

Back to clips from my October KY trip – transfer at the Lima, OH, crossroads;

Sarosh Haider is fishing at my family’s place.  Islamabad to Southeast KY, for school, work, etc.  Pakistani Outdoorsman is his youtube channel .   Marry a woman from Harlan, and start a youtube channel about fishing in KY, how’s that for adaptation?

The overnight bus ride back from Knoxville, TN, to Charlottesville was kind of terrifying.  Right-wing supremacists are no joke. Thanks to our Black seatmate, his agitation was kept at bay.  For the time being.  What a relief to make it back home to Northampton for a decompressing peaceful midnight stroll on the bike path.
