#253: c4cancer(Prevention?), Purim Puppetistas Sadie Yael, BenW Amish observations

Purim puppeteer interviewstarts at 9 min

Tech problems in the studio for this show.  Electrical issues.  it went over the air sporadically, there was no internet connection, and it didn’t record.  so this recording is just a  hashing together of my clips.  only 28 min.

#251: Carmageddon and bike songs

I rode the length of Rte 9 in Hadley today on an errand, which inspired this show.   That and I’ve been reading Andy Singer’s book  CARtoons.     Mostly this show is bike songs from the Americas and Europe, and quotes from Andy’s book, including other thinkers such as Ivan Illich.

But first my neighbor Derek Goodwin invites us to Kirtan this evening, while playing harmonium.

#245: Lima, Sarosh Haider, Greyhound Bus Survival Stories

Back to clips from my October KY trip – transfer at the Lima, OH, crossroads;

Sarosh Haider is fishing at my family’s place.  Islamabad to Southeast KY, for school, work, etc.  Pakistani Outdoorsman is his youtube channel .   Marry a woman from Harlan, and start a youtube channel about fishing in KY, how’s that for adaptation?

The overnight bus ride back from Knoxville, TN, to Charlottesville was kind of terrifying.  Right-wing supremacists are no joke. Thanks to our Black seatmate, his agitation was kept at bay.  For the time being.  What a relief to make it back home to Northampton for a decompressing peaceful midnight stroll on the bike path.

#244: Chicago trip! Train and old Catholic Worker friends

I took Amtrak to Chicago the last weekend in September.
Train trip reflections – apples in Albany-Renssalaer, Loud fearful white rider afraid of Black neighborhoods, the Amish contingent…
In Chicago: Seth Tristan Jensen talks about Perennial Cooperative in Madison where he lives
Lucky’s bike placard says “Bicycling: A Quiet Statement Against Oil Wars”
Maria Barnes and Tim Herlihey, of Uptown Bikes in Chicago, talk about the start of Uptown/Urban Bikes in the 90’s, and I tell how it was a precursor to Pedal People starting in Northampton in 2002.
Mark Walden, on the sacredness of decades of Sunday frisbee football pickup games
Mike Bremer – his mom was committed to voting against Donald Trump in 2020, whether she was alive or dead.
